Our London deviantMEET Was Brilliant!On Saturday, June 14, 2009, deviantART held a deviantMEET at the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park. Over 350 deviants showed up to celebrate all things deviantART, setting a record for the highest attended deviantMEET in history in the process... until now.
Almost exactly three years later -- on Saturday, June 30, 2012 -- at the same location in Hyde Park, London deviants once again turned up in droves. Smashing the previous record, our London deviantMEET 2012 saw over 550 deviants throughout the day.
Most deviantMEETs include a group photo, usually taken towards the end of the event's festivities. However, we wasted no time taking our group shot in front of the Albert Memorial, as we wanted to ensure we were complying with Hyde Park's rules and regulations for large gatherings. With a group this massive -- and awesome -- it's hard not to draw attention!

In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category. It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy

Comic-Con: Day 4On Sunday, the 4th and final day of San Diego Comic-Con, we were able to keep the love flowing to show the artists and art enthusiasts who came by our booth just how much they meant to us.
The last day of Comic-Con is always bittersweet. The air buzzes with positivity, inspiration, and camaraderie, but in the back of your mind, you know it may be another year before you see some of these friends, old and new. Sure, we always have the Internet, but there's something special about meeting in real life that can’t compare to flipping through a portfolio of sketches, laughing out loud with your peers, and supporting artists’ hard work right then and there.
There was rarely a moment when one of our seven kiosks wasn’t occupied by an artist. Young or old, newbie or professional, digital or traditional, the chance to sit down and create art was difficult to pass up with inspiration coming from every direction.

Spring has sprung and April showers have started raining down here at HQ.
Winter rain makes me want to crawl back into bed, get a hot cup of coco, and read a book all day. But there’s something different about April showers...
Maybe it’s because it’s less cold outside, or that the days are longer, but springtime rain makes me want to play in puddles.I want to go outside and smell the fresh air, and I just feel rejuvenated. Spring is a time for me to dust off old projects and start new ones. Forget New Years, April's when I get inspired!

In memory of the young LGBT people who lost their lives to suicide, Brittany encouraged her friends to wear purple on a day in October -- a day that came to be known as Spirit Day. Since then, GLAAD has helped turn Spirit Day into a global event that inspires millions of individuals, celebrities, TV personalities, media outlets, companies and schools to wear purple in a stand against bullying.
While Spirit Day does focus on the LGBT community, I believe that it's anti-bullying message is relevant to every community. It only get's better, if we take the pledge to make it so.
Practice compassion and understanding, and treat others how you would like to be treated and we can make a difference.

DeviantART's First Ever Gallery Show in London!

Last weekend, a few deviantART staff members were in London for a combination of community fun and srs bsns. While deviantART has become quite adept at hosting deviantMEETs, we decided to try our hand at something a little different -- hosting an art exhibition featuring Prints by deviantART artists local to the area.

On Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012, deviantART sponsored Urban Blighty, a unique showcase of hand-selected Prints by United Kingdom based deviants. These Prints were chosen based on a variety of criteria -- curation quality, previous Print sales, genre, etc. -- in order to exemplify the breadth of works available for sale on deviantART. In contacting our selected artists, we were pleased to hear they were excited to showcase their works and that many were able to attend the gallery show in person.

The day before the Gallery opened to the public, $grieves05, $codenamepanther, and I ($Ayame-Kenoshi) met with the featured artists to give them a private preview of the gallery space. All of the Urban Blighty art was displayed on the walls as beautifully framed Fine Art Prints. After the private preview, we headed to dinner, where everyone sat down to discuss the Prints program. As active Prints sellers, these artists have an intimate understanding of the selling process and provided great suggestions for future Prints program efforts.

On the day of the show, we were joined by $DEVlANT, $dxd, and $Heidi who helped in our last-minute efforts to ensure the gallery looked pristine. We opened the doors right at 4:00 PM, and a queue had already formed outside! Not only were we thrilled to see all the familiar faces from Saturday's deviantMEET, but a whole new crowd of people showed up to appreciate the amazing artworks we had on display. Urban Blighty was open to deviants and non-deviants alike, and many attendees who walked in from the street were incredibly impressed by the wide range of artistic talent found on deviantART.

The featured artists were introduced to the crowd and were able to talk directly with attendees about their work, process, and what inspires them to create art. Each piece was situated next to a placard with the title of the art, artist name, and deviantART username, so interested art appreciators could check out the online versions, fave them if they pleased, or make a note to keep an eye out for these gifted artists in the future.

Throughout the show, a raffle was held, allowing all attendees the chance to receive a Print directly from the wall. By the end of the night, every Print had been carefully bubble-wrapped and given to a good home.
