I enjoy the TV show
Community.
A lot. However, what I enjoy most about this show is the story and, well,
community behind it. When the show went on a sudden hiatus, I couldn't help but be inspired by how Community fans harnessed the power of the arts not only to cope, but help save the show.
Last year, NBC announced Community would be put on hiatus for an unspecified amount of time, causing an outrage in the show's fan base. Once the announcement was made, fans took to social media to complain. This is a relatively normal response in this day and age, but strangely enough, the outrage didn't wane. In fact, it only strengthened as the final episode for the mid-season approached, and the looming uncertainty as to the show's fate became a reality.
Flash mobs were formed. Targeted campaigns were organized to urge Community's advertisers to continue support for the show. And, most relevant of all, incredible fanart was created from artists all over the world. Many of these artists call deviantART home.
Fans used their creativity and artistic talent to make a difference, and their efforts did not go unnoticed. The show's producers, writers, and stars constantly retweeted fanart. The media picked up these stories as
several articles were produced to highlight the work of these artists. To me, the revival of Community wouldn't have been possible without such an amazing outpour of creativity from the fans.
Community finally returned to TV last night, with a demo rating of 2.2, a 46% increase over their last episode, and 4.9 million viewers. It's still a rocky road ahead, as many of the fans who avidly watch online aren't counted in the statistics that matter to the network. But I applaud the use of creativity to cope with a dark time and I'm proud to know that some of the most iconic pieces of this movement were made by artists on deviantART.
Well not exactly vocally but well you know what i mean. great artworks too
