During November each year, Movember is responsible for the broken relationships between men and their razors.  Donning their mustaches, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health - specifically prostate cancer.

The Culinary Creations contest has ended and the results are IN! What an awesome batch of entries we had. I must say browsing through the gallery on an almost daily basis to check the entries had me feeling incredibly hungry! Weather Photography has always fascinated me - the weather in general does anyway, but capturing those changes, shifts in atmosphere and so on have always had me in awe. However when browsing the latest news within popular photography early this week I was stunned by an image that NASA had captured of hurricane Isaac as it lurked over the USA. I've been in a hurricane before, but it never felt as organised or precise as this image shows. This shows a smooth beautiful cloud formation. When below  it's likely wreaking havoc and destroying lives. It's difficult to match the two together and contemplate them as the same thing. Text Brush in deviantART muroWe just launched a new tool to Beta Testers that allows you to paint words onto your canvas in deviantART muro!
The text brush lets you create visual art using words. You can change the text and font from the bottom bar, and you can also set whether or not the text repeats itself continuously. When you click the font button, you'll be prompted with a modal that contains an extensive list of fonts to choose from! The sample text will update based on the font you select, so you can get a sense of what you'll be painting before you paint it.

As an example of the great things you can create with this tool, you can check out $mudimba's I Have A Dream, or watch a redraw of $mudimba at work creating art!

Seniority Announcement - December 2011This article marks the latest announcements detailing the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 800 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.

New Premium Member Feature: Gallery Subfolders

One of the most requested features we've gotten on Site Updates in the past is the ability to add subfolders within your gallery. As of today, the wait is over! Subfolder capability has been added to the member gallery for Premium Members. This allows users to create folders within a folder, for more specific organization and overall tidiness.

More Updates to the New Thumbnails Preview

Several weeks ago, we released a sneak peek of deviantART's new thumbnails. We've been making changes based on community responses, and today we've implemented a few more. In this updated version, the font, spacing, and colors of the text under the thumbs have been adjusted. Also, several members had concerns about the "frames" that were put around thumbs that were either extra tall, extra wide, or small images (such as emoticons and avatars). We've adjusted the visual display of these frames to make them less distracti

Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable.  To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day.  This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to $ZombieCoder for that :heart:).

I like the shattering deviations. I think it's a nice Halloween trick. And I think everyone should calm down about it, because if you click on the link, it still takes you to the deviation.
