After a 3 year absence, the Holiday Card Project returned in 2012 and was more successful than ever! Over 2500 deviants from 60 countries participated this year, with more than 3500 cards received. With such an excellent response, we wanted to ensure we were spreading the love as much as possible. We asked for volunteers to help distribute cards to their local hospitals, and with the extra assistance of a few super deviants, we were able to distribute cards to 23 hospitals around the world!

Most hospitals were comfortable taking the cards and distributing them to patients on food trays or through hospital volunteers. While we aren't always able to interact directly with the patients, we're told what we already know -- that the cards are beautiful and the patients greatly appreciated them. We even started to receive lovely thank you letters from our participating hospitals.

Topicality, pajama-sam, and I were able to distribute the cards in person to the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. The kids at this center are those that are undergoing therapy to get stronger and healthier after their surgeries. We were able to speak with the patients, and their parents, and see their reactions upon receiving one of your one-of-a-kind cards. One child, in particular, made quite an impact on us.

Ryan has been in various hospitals since November 3rd. He spent his 8th birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas in the hospital. He has a condition known as AVM, a congenital brain condition, which required several brain surgeries and various medical procedures. While it's been an extremely tough time for him and his family, Ryan had the biggest smile on his face when we saw him, especially when we gave him one of your hand-crafted cards. Not only did Ryan love the card, but his mother was appreciative for the support.

This was truly a deviantART community effort, as deviants made the cards, and deviants distributed the cards! While we staff were able to distribute a few, we relied on you to spread joy all over the world. Thanks to our volunteers, we were able to double the number of hospitals reached. Check out some of their photos below!

Special thanks to the deviantART staffers who were instrumental in the behind-the-scenes work of sorting and counting the cards, Shyree, TheLaurenVerse, Heidi, aunjuli, codenamepanther, o-KOUKLA-o, and makepictures.

And, most of all, thank you for your time and effort sending us cards and bringing smiles to those who need it most. This project could not have been possible without you, and we sincerely appreciate the spirit of giving and joy that thrives throughout the deviantART community.
