Louder Than a Bomb Poetry Slam
In 2013, #Elocutionists will be hosting its first spoken word competition, dubbed 'Louder Than a Bomb' (named after the Chicago Poetry Slam of the same name). The competition will consist of writers either having their work performed to their specifications by readers or representing themselves in the competition with their own recordings. There may also be the possibility of two categories to enter: a category for individual slam poets and another for groups. If you are not aware of what a poetry slam is, here is a quick definition and rundown of some basic, universal rules:
A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Everyone who signs up has the opportunity to read in the first round; the lineup for subsequent rounds is determined by the judges' scores. Though rules vary from slam to slam, the basic rules are

In my experience, the Community Relations team is a wonderful group of people, and if you're heavily engaged in deviantART, helping out from a CV position is one of the best experiences you can get :happybounce: This counts whether you're applying for Community Projects, or for another area.
I should make clear that I am not leaving the Community Relations team myself; I will still be a volunteer :) I will just focus more on mentoring and the chats & forums and on personal projects

Everyday, millions of users from all over the world use deviantART, and  it is really hard for new users to get themselves noticed. Oh yes, it is HARD. It can actually be a really disappointing experience for some of us. But, if you show some patience and work for it, you may just be able to crack through that wall standing between you and exposure to the community. Remember, all it take is patience. Lots and lots of patience. Oh, and you also need to trust yourself. Just because you couldn't get a huge fan base in several weeks or months doesn't mean that you will never get them. But, there are some really important stuff you need to follow first before getting there.
dA is also a community, just like any other community in the world. The only difference is dA is and online community and the others, well they are totally offline :nana:.  So, this means there will be some standards to be held in there, or else it
Literary Compass - Vol. 3Welcome
If one is looking for Literature, you don't need to go far on deviantART. There is a large community of writers and a plethora of work to peruse. Featuring  genres such as fantasy, mystery, horror, and romance, one would be hard-pressed to find an area not covered. However, due to the nature of the site, shorter works tend to get more focus. It's easier to quickly read a poem or a short story, and thus many of the feature articles on dA showcase those works. However, there are many novelists and serial writers among the mix, oftentimes fighting an uphill battle to have their works seen and appreciated.
With that in mind, I have started an article to spotlight some of those artists and their literary-worlds. The works covered in this feature will exclusively be long-form fiction such as novels, trilogies, etc., or fiction serials.

When I first started investigating Winter Wildlife Photography I thought that I would have to aim for things like Foxes, Deer and other wild and sometimes elusive animals. But actually, wildlife Photography and in particular in the Winter - can start right in the back garden.
Birds in particular get hungrier and needier during Winter months in England. I'm sure this is true for many parts of the world too. Depending on the kinds that frequent your garden, you could encourage them to linger pretty quickly or it might

As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!
I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown.  I know that it's "human nature" to want to find
Seattle deviantMEET Wrap-Up!The Emerald City gave a warm welcome to its deviantART green brethren on Saturday, March 23, with one of the most successful deviantMEETs in history! With over 400 attendees, this event was the second largest deviantMEET ever, and the day couldn't have been more perfect. The Pratt Fine Arts Center had the honor of not only hosting the event but instructing the group on some awesome artistic techniques. More on that later.

The gathering kicked off with deviants mixing and mingling with one another, meeting artists with similar interests. At 1 PM, the screenprinting tutorials began, led by instructors from Pratt. We were surprised to see that our friends at Pratt even created a special screen containing a deviantART logo for attendees to use in their design!

From 1 - 5 PM on Saturday, March 23rd, deviants of all ages are welcome to join us for a deviantMEET held at the Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, WA. An instructor from Pratt will be present to guide a workshop in screenprinting. Come ready to create and you'll be able to take home a custom, one-of-a-kind memento.


Bring your sketchbook to showcase your work with others, art supplies to collaborate on a piece with a friend, and a camera to capture the memories. Pratt also has free Wi-Fi, so feel free to bring your laptop or tablet to show off your deviantART Profile Page and +Watch new friends. We'll be creating art all day long, so get ready to be inspired!




We'll also have the top three dioramas from the Merrell Diorama Contest on display. *trinafool, the winner of the contest, will be there to showcase her work and share how she made her creation.
