Site Update: Back from the Staff RetreatIn this week's Site Update, we do not have any public-facing changes. DeviantART staff just returned from the staff retreat as mentioned in last week's Site Update. This week, we are going through the hackathon projects that the Devious Technology team worked on, prioritizing them, doing further research, and then deciding how they can be used in the future.
Next week, we will back on our regular schedule and should have more updates for you!

Last year, our sponsorship of Artists' Alley was a huge success. We were able to provide a more comfortable environment for the artists, display their art on huge screens over the Alley, and let people attending the convention draw with deviantART muro on fantastic digital screens. We plan to do this and more in 2012 as we take on the great pleasure of sponsoring Artists' Alley at San Diego Comic-C
Site Update: Staff Retreat, .Art, deviantMEETsIn this week's Site Update, we don't have any publicly visible changes, as our Devious Technology (dT), Product, and Product Marketing teams are all still at a staff retreat!
At the beginning of the week, the dT team worked on improving our internal development tools to increase efficiency.  Then, on Wednesday, we let any staff members at the retreat pitch fun and exciting ideas for deviantART features that could be built in two days. After each feature idea was pitched, everyone from dT chose which projects they'd like to work on. Throughout the year, engineers primarily work on projects that are assigned to them, so sometimes it's important to turn the tables and let them choose projects in which they're most passionate and excited about.

Our London deviantMEET Was Brilliant!On Saturday, June 14, 2009, deviantART held a deviantMEET at the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park.  Over 350 deviants showed up to celebrate all things deviantART, setting a record for the highest attended deviantMEET in history in the process... until now. 
Almost exactly three years later -- on Saturday, June 30, 2012 -- at the same location in Hyde Park, London deviants once again turned up in droves.  Smashing the previous record, our London deviantMEET 2012 saw over 550 deviants throughout the day.   
Most deviantMEETs include a group photo, usually taken towards the end of the event's festivities.  However, we wasted no time taking our group shot in front of the Albert Memorial, as we wanted to ensure we were complying with Hyde Park's rules and regulations for large gatherings.  With a group this massive -- and awesome -- it's hard not to draw attention!

This past weekend, deviantART teamed up with #DeviantMEET-Paris to host a deviantMEET that ultimately yielded over 250 deviant attendees!  As you may have read in the latest Site Update, our Devious Technology, Product, and Product Marketing teams are currently in France -- participating in a staff retreat, that has everyone working hard to improve and optimize many key areas of deviantART.  On Saturday, June 9th, we took a small break from our discussions and traveled to the City of Light to meet and mingle with Parisian deviants.  Here's a quick recap of the day's events!

More Updates to the New Thumbnails Preview

Several weeks ago, we released a sneak peek of deviantART's new thumbnails. We've been making changes based on community responses, and today we've implemented a few more. In this updated version, the font, spacing, and colors of the text under the thumbs have been adjusted. Also, several members had concerns about the "frames" that were put around thumbs that were either extra tall, extra wide, or small images (such as emoticons and avatars). We've adjusted the visual display of these frames to make them less distracti
