Merrell Diorama Contest

Mon Oct 1, 2012, 5:26 PM

Merrell shoes and clothes invites you to get inspired by the change in seasons and bring your favorite fall memory to life in a diorama -- in a shoebox! Please join Merrell in the celebration of "Vendemmia" while paying homage to their unique and sophisticated Fall Collection of shoes and boots. Vendemmia is the age-old tradition of the Italian wine harvest, and for a few autumn months, the terraced hillside vineyards come alive with hard work and passion, and the fruits of this elegant dedication flourish for generations to come. Merrell wants to peek into your most treasured fall memory presented with creativity and love, and a diorama is the perfect way to bring that vision to life.

Choose a treasured fall memory that you've imagined or experienced.

Use a shoebox to recreate that detailed memory on a smaller scale. (Please see our diorama construction guidelines before submitting!)

Take photographs from up to four distinct vantage points to allow us to see every imaginative detail. (Please see our photography angle guidelines before submitting!)

In order to submit, place up to four images in a single JPG or PNG file as a single deviation.

I am going to contact Merrell shoes directly about the "Official Rules and Guidelines" to this contest as they need to
know that when rules are posted and not followed and those who are entering after the deadline are finalist it makes it look like the contest is a SCAM and therefore makes Merrell Shoes look bad. Just Saying Rules are Rules People!!!!! If we don't need them then I can enter a shoe, AN ACTUAL SHOE, as my FALL Memory.

I agree with you on that one, plus i love how it was supposed to be in a shoebox and if you don't have one then you had to make one with cardboard and two of them aren't made like that.

Exactly! Specific Rules and Guidelines were outlined, just want the
community to follow and respect that because a lot of us spent money
and time to be considered and followed the Rules. I thought it was
disappointing to see that some of the finalist as good as they may be did not
follow the Rules. It is a Contest.

Greetings,

What entry are you concerned about not following the rules?

Thank you,
Danie

There are exactly 7 entries that uploaded after the deadline.
According to the Rules, they would automatically be disqualified.

Otherwise, I support all the entries as I love and support this
community for encouraging us all to express ourselves artistically.

I just feel that if one rule is going to be ignored for some; then
why not change the rules to fit any individuals preferences. This
was a diorama contest about Favorite Fall Memories with specific guidelines.

Regards

Not one of those entries is submitted after the deadline, the date you are seeing is reflective of your timezone setting, not reflective of the system time.

Clearly, we will disagree on this point. System time vs my personal timezone setting.
If I am looking at an entry and they submitted on their OCT. 31 11:59 PST timezone why would it not show up on Deviant Art as OCT. 31st PST. There are a few entries that used something other than Cardboard for the base of their Diorama. It LOOKS suspicious to those who are viewing because the entries clearly list NOV. 1st not OCT. 31st. Ok here we go! This will help

If you go to your deviantART settings here [link] and click on general, at the bottom change your 'timezone' to America/Los Angeles (that's the system time)

Then go and look at one of the entries you were saying showed November 1st and you'll see they are October 31 as you can see here [link]

It's a weird situation I'm trying to fix with the way we display the submission dates but I assure you all of the entries are valid and were entered on time.

There are at least 2 semi finalist that have entry times posted as Nov. 1st. Also, there is at least one entry finalist who did not use cardboard as the base for their box. SEE Guidelines [link] This is not a timezone setting on my computer it is clearly posted on Their Entry. Like I said before I love all of the entries. I support and encourage ART in all forms. Contest like this have to be run according to the rules set forth. You maybe need to look at fixing the website so the system times are accurate for all to see or hide them from everyone so we don't even know. It clearly LOOKS suspicious. There needs to be communication to all who entered about this "system time" vs. "timezone setting" on our personal computers. I just think if that truly is the case then of course you would inform all persons who entered and assure them that the contest is following all the guidelines with heartfelt thanks to all who are asking because we do support and encourage the ART.

The time you are seeing is based on your time zone, not the system time. System time the contest ended October 31, 11:59:59pm PST if you're on the east coast, that was November 1 at 2:59am

posted earlier: "Our official rules state that the entry must be a diorama in a shoebox or in a box of the dimensions of a shoebox as specified in the Construction Guidelines. Cardboard, as stated in the Construction Guidelines, refers to a material that has the properties of cardboard -- i.e., something that's lightweight and malleable yet stiff. The rules state that we accept any shoebox, even if not cardboard. We presented cardboard as a logical and relatively affordable option in the guidelines, however, we did state that all items used in the Work may originate in any medium provided the medium is safe for international transportation through the mails. After conferring with the judges, the only entry of concern involves the use of glass and we will be selecting a backup to take it's place. Thank you for your concern and feedback, this is exactly why we post semi-finalists to help us catch anything we may have missed during the gruelling task of judging"

"VERIFICATION OF WINNERS AND DELIVERY OF PRIZES: Potential winners who are under the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence and their parent or legal guardian will, and other potential winners may, be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and liability release and, where permitted, a publicity release. Prize may be forfeited if affidavit or releases are not returned within 14 days after mailing to potential winner or if prize notification letter or prize is returned as undeliverable. Winner agrees to deviantART's use of his/her name, address, likeness, and/or prize information for promotional purposes in any medium without additional compensation to the extent permitted by law."

Dosen't that mean that even if your barely underage (17) you can have your parent/guardian sign something like a permission slip??

I'm pretty sure it means that 18 is still considered a minor in some areas, so in those cases you will need parental permission.

I don't know for sure, but I think it means if you're over 18, but still considered a minor in your country, you're parents have to give permission.

Basicly yes

If you're under 18 your parents have to give permission, if the parents don't agree with the term of use if DevianArt about this competition (cus of them having your personal information) that will cause you losing your winner place.
