~Lets be honest and straight forward, Three things everyone has thought of at this point.

A: Doesn't feel like a price to take advantage of when people don't feel like its worth that price.
B: Nothing truly has changed, even the discounted part.
C: To upgrade or not to upgrade, that is the question.

~deviantART is a business, and a needs to earn revenue to keep a float. We all understand that, but as consumers, we don't want to spend too much money, and that's a fact. In truth, most people can't afford to spend that much money or for giggles, are cheap bastards. The price advertised was slightly lower than the previous years, If I'm not mistaken it was $59.95 last year. Unless some people desire to expand their group and has some magnificent updates and upgrades to their group which they will need to rely on the super group functions, they may choose to go for this, but others may have found that there wasn't enough offered for that price. In my own personal opinion, I found Super Groups do have the potential to dazzle the eyes, but still needs improvement. For what they offer, at this price, its not worth it at this point in time. In my own personal opinion, I agree with the respectable deviants below, I would be interested in renewing it if it was equal to a premium membership for 12 months ($29.95), but for now, No thank you, too rich for my blood for getting too little. For everyone else, Its up to you, If you can't afford it but still want it, I hope you earned enough donations for it. :typerhappy:

~Happy Holidays!~ :typerhappy:

Call me a fool, but I do like having my group a super group even if you guys only offer VERY little things when I upgrade my groups. Reading some of the replies below by not just regular members but the more respectable members that have been part of dA for a long time should show you guys that you need to work on a lot of things. So I 100% agree with `AreteEirene

There is a lot of key things that many people pointed out that if you guys have any respect for us members you would take into accounting. I have always paid up front so that the members in my group can enjoy their experiences it a little more and so that the people I hire in my group can work a little better seeing as groups don't have many benefits for administering when it comes to helping the founder out if your group isn't a super group. But now I'm feeling like a total idiot for spending money on something that isn't even worth it. You guys need to lower the price or at least the discount. Hell, what would be better is if you guys at the very least offer more things for super groups! I know that hundreds of people have giving you guys more then thousands of ideas in what you can add or improve with groups.

Though who am I kidding. I'm sure that what I say isn't even going to be looked at, and by some miracle it is, I'm sure its going to not even be taken into thought or just pushed aside because I'm just so annoying member "bitching" and "complaining" when really I just want the site and the things that you guys do offer to improve a little more on the things that I and many others care about.

I must admit I was excited to think a group premium was on sale for $30, and then when I opened this the discount is on the original price that a group premium has never actually cost.

To be bluntly honest, there are only two benefits of having a super group - polls and the ability to have subfolders in folders and collections. The banner is worthless; I've never had anyone join because they saw my group was super and my biggest group isn't even listed on the first page of search results! The super badge should get an automatic bump to the top of search results.

I can add the CSS myself to a journal. It really isn't a benefit if anyone with a subby can add CSS to a journal and then submit it to the group.

Groups need a lot of work. A whole group forum is a must, not just one in the backroom. Managing members and deviations needs to be lot easier and faster. As it is I'm not up to even spending $50 to re-up my first group. :saddummy:

They shouldn't be free, just a more reasonable price than the $50-$120 range. Personally I'd say use the Premium Account price range as a guide, maybe make the Super Group status a few dollars more than that and that should be ok. But $50-$120 is insane.

And... What is the point with sub?
No.. I donīt agree with you. Itīs should be free or almost free.

DeviantArt still need to earn money in order to run. If we start saying "well everything should be free for clubs" then what stops us from applying that logic to user-accounts?

At the end of the day, DeviantArt is a business and one that needs to make money. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them charging for Super-Group status, but the price has to be reasonable.

I'm sorry, but your idea to have them be free is going too far in the other direction. It has to be fair for both the consumer AND the business.

A super group is the same as a premium membership, so why would they make it for free, when a premium isn't? The logic in here is extremely flawed. People are also not "donating", they buy these things so dA has money to survive. If they did things for free, there would be no more dA, because a business needs customers to exist.

Firstly, I can promise you that I will never pay $120 for super status.
Groups are not being used the way they were intended.
The ability to join a group without having to watch the devs & journals allow people to take advantage.
They join hundreds of groups just so they can dump their work there.
They dont want to participate, they only want to pimp their art.
Im not going to pay anymore of my hard earned cash just to be taken advantage of.
Secondly, I really thought that by now, you would have given super groups more bells & whistles.
IE, chat forums, more layouts, donation boxes for groups that are non-transferable & can only be used to upgrade that group.
The ability for groups to sell stock or art to help achieve an upgrade etc.

My group held donations (via an admin page) for the group and we've had it for two years but I agree, you don't get as much for your money. There are some features that are misleading like the renaming social classes. The picture describing that feature is misleading, and makes it seem you can rename the 'members' class but you can't. You can only rename admin positions to what you want.

Also, the nested folders are great for browsing but for members submitting they don't appear nested, just a long list of all parent AND child folders, no way to tell which is which and what child belongs to which parent.

I think if DA really wants group admins to consider this premium, they need to re-tool some of these issues AND sweeten the pot. Forums, Group Donation pools, a chat box maybe? Stuff that can get the members to interact besides posting on the front page and in journals.

This year we are letting the premium expire because it's just not worth it.

Id love the ability for admin chat.
At the moment, we have to go to FB & chat there.
So if we have to have a FB group so that we can have admin meetings, why do we need a DA group as well?
And, the FB groups are free lol.

In my opinion the perks of a super group don't justify $120 barely $60. I can justify paying a PM for my self but for a group it does not seem worth it. I know with a PM I get a lot of perks but with a super group I just don't see how it improves the group experience enough. If you guys would add more perks I'd change my mind.

So, for those of you freaking out that this is "50% off of $120" and for those who know the promotional price was $60, here are a few things to consider:

1.) This is still a discount from the promotional price of $60 for a 1 year as a super group. $10 is $10. I like have a super group and have already renewed because of this $10 discount.

2.) There is always a possibility that they may actually end the $60 promo price and that it could in fact be raised to $120. So, this is still a good deal if you were looking into some sort of sale to get yourself one.

3.) Yes, the marking strategy for this is beyond goofy with the order of things. It would have made more sense to raise the cost to the "full" price before going into "50%" off since it was at a promotional price of $60. However, as stated in #1, you are still ultimately saving $10 on the promotional price.

We cannot predict if the payment for super groups is going to be raised up to the full $120 or go back to the $60 "promo" price. But for those of you saying, "I wouldn't pay $120 for this!" Then don't! Take advantage of a sale like this because that is the true strategy for those of us wanting this feature, keeping us on our toes because we are scared it will go up to $120.

Now, off to work I go. Though I am interested in seeing what the price will be after this "sale" has ended.

Super groups are really unreasonably priced... and for what? the added features for super group do not justify the price tag. Either add more features to the super group system or lower the price.

btw 20$ - 30$ usd price point is common for a year membership of most online services that I've used. Unless its really fancy like a streaming service which has a lot more bells and whistles. Your super groups I cant see justifying anything over 30$ for. And that's being generous.

$49.95~! That's half~!? Didn't it use to be $50 or $60 with out a 50% off? So it's a $100 now~!? That's crazy~!

Forget it~! When my groups "gifted" super group status expires, I'm just fine with being a regular group, especially if it means I have to pay $100 to be a super group again.

You charge to much for something that is more or less worthless. All the super group status is, adding glitter and gilts to make it look pretty; when we all know it's the members that make the group. And supposedly it puts you up closer to the top of a group search; with the fandom that I have for my group I don't need to have a high place on the ladder. All my fellow fans can and will find my group just fine by exploration of other deviants group widgets.

Heh, some discount....When reading the comments of everyone else below me, just like everyone else says, that's only $10, hardly a discount, not worth it.

I always feel $60 a year for supergroup is already ridiculous, let alone $120. I handle one supergroup with almost five thousands members and yet when I asked for donation help at renewal times, it was only a handful. I chipped in the rest. So many members cannot even afford a PM for their own accounts and there is too few generous ones that can help me out. But why charging the groups in the first place? I volunteer all my time with the help of two wonderful admins. We do not make any single cents from it, zero profits except for the fun to help out.
I've meaning to write and ask dA why such a high charge for a supergroup. It is a community of artists get-togethers. We do not make money, so why dA should benefit from that. Ok maybe they say it is their site, but overcharging for their own profits is just beyond my understanding. If they decide to go up to $120, I might call it quits.

As others have said, $120 is a ridiculous price for a Super Group. Of course, this whole thing is quite misleading, as the $120 price was never actually implemented and the Super Group price was "discounted" to $60 pretty much since the start of the Groups platform (FAQ #433: How much is a Super Group?: "Access to a Super Group is $59.95 (4,796 points) per year."). So this is really only a $10 sale. Even then, a Super Group is not worth $50. Why? Almost every single advantage of a Super Group is equal to that of a normal Premium Membership, and not all Premium Member advantages are even available to Super Groups.

Let's take a look at these features as listed on the upgrade page:
Rename social classes: :sarcasticclap:
4 Layouts to choose from: :sarcasticclap:
Organize your gallery with nested folders: Yes, this feature was available for Super Groups first, but it's available for Premium Members now.
Rename Group tabs: :sarcasticclap:
Rename member classes: :sarcasticclap: (Wait, how is this different from "rename social classes"?)
Customize sidebar widgets: :sarcasticclap:
Highlight in Groups Directory: Do people really care about this? I certainly wouldn't need it for either of my groups. Really, the only way this would even be somewhat useful is if your group is extremely common in subject/purpose/search keywords.
Skin your blog: Premium member benefit.
Promotional Widgets: Premium member benefit (group widgets are only slightly different)
So for $50 (or possibly $60 or $120 after this promotional sale is over), you get the ability to rename some stuff, rearrange and further organize some stuff, add some minor stuff, and give your blogs a facelift. Oh, and you can do group polls, but that's not actually a listed benefit.

For a $30 premium membership, you can do all that (minus the stuff that is group-specific, like member-class names), plus more: gallery CSS, shoutbox, personal forum board, custom folder icons... anything else I've forgotten? And if any of this stuff is available to Super Groups, I wouldn't know, since I don't have a Super Group and none of those are actually listed as Super Group benefits. Plus, we still don't have a search for group galleries, which I'm pretty sure has been asked for since the implementation of Groups.

I find the fact that there are no Group forums (available to all members, not the admin-only boards) especially pathetic. There are tons of RP groups (just search "RP" in Groups, 630 pages!); just think what Group-based forums could do for these Groups. Even Groups that are not specifically for RP but have RP aspects and members who RP (such as my own Group, #ClubTeenTitansOC) would use Group forum boards.

Oh yes, and then of course there's the fact that there is no easy way for members to donate toward the price of a Super Group. Most Group admins who want their members to donate toward Super Group status will set up donation widgets on their own pages, but a Group donation widget makes much more sense. Would it really be that hard to implement a Group donation widget where the points can only be spent on upgrading the Group? Then again, it doesn't seem like it should be that hard to implement Group forums when Premium Members already get their own forums, but that hasn't happened either.

TL;DR Get Super Group benefits on par with Premium Member benefits and lower the price ($30-$40, not this $50, $60, $120 ridiculousness). If you want to charge more, come up with great new features.

I do have to make a minor correction. Custom folder icons are available to all members. There was a blog from HQ a while back where one of the suggestions was to give Groups the ability to set custom folder icons. However, it was said in the journal that custom folder icons are only available to Premium Members when they are actually available to everyone. If they weren't, I wouldn't have been able to set icons as a regular member.
