Thursday: ABC Stories!

Thu Sep 13, 2012, 12:53 PM

Happy Thursday, Premium Members!

We first want to announce the winners of the Mother Nature contest! These were the entries that best represented the concept, with the creativity and visual impact to make an impression. Well done to the winners!

Congratulations! You will be contacted about your prizes within the next 24 hours.

For this week, we're reviewing our alphabet and testing out our poetry skills! Your task is to write a poem in ABC style revolving around a particular theme!

An ABC poem is when the first word of line 1 begins with an A, the first word of line 2 begins with a B etc. For example:

A large mammal once roamed the earth,
Bigger than a breadbox for certain,
Created for nothing but destruction
Dominating anything in its path.
Even the gods did
Fear the wrath of this beast
Growing more and more powerful
Heaving its burden on its weak owner
Injuring and mocking
Just in time for its mid-morning nap.

See how it works? It's simple and fun! If you don't feel comfortable writing a poem, you could write a story in ABC style, with each sentence beginning with the next letter of the alphabet.

Every good contest needs a theme, and your ABC poems/stories should be about:

:spotlight-left: Cats! :spotlight-right:

Remember, your work could be more of a story. You don't have to use all of the letters of the alphabet, but you may! Just make sure that your entry contains a story or poem in which each line begins with the next letter of the alphabet. Bonus points to those who can describe cats without actually using the word "cat"! ;)

You could describe any kind of cat -- tiger, lion, domestic cat -- or any aspect of cathood. It's totally up to you!

We'll choose three winners who will receive 1000 Points each! All entries must be submitted as comments to this blog and must be posted by Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 11:59 PM Los Angeles, CA, time. Winners will be judged based on creativity, inclusion of the theme, and accuracy to the ABC style.

Let's see those wordsmith skills shine! :woohoo:

The X was deleted when I was spacing :iconorzplz:

Quietly I lurk through the grass after my prey,
Ready to strike at any given moment.

Sounds of the earth fill my ears, making them twitch.
Though, ever diligent, I don't let noise distract me.
Utterly unmatched, I skulk after him in the vegetation.
Vigorous yet silent, I crouch,
Waiting for the perfect moment.
Xanthous is my gaze as I watch.
Yearning, I keep still,
Zealous in my efforts not to be seen.

At last, there's my chance!
Bouncing from my heels, I tackle the tiny beast.
Clear vision keeps him in my sights, and I am victorious.
Defeat is his last meal before he is mine.

Ever on the hunt, I push forward once more,
Forever in search of these things called mice.

According to legend, temples were
Built in your name;
Can you exist without us, or must I
Define, once again, the meaning of our relationship;
Examine, once more, those wide-set eyes that
Frown when I don't obey your call.
Go, little one, leave me be.
Have I made myself clear?
I am not your slave; you are not my master; take what I give you. I
Jest not.
Killer, huntress of flies,
Leaper, bounder, boundless--
Master you are not;
Nor are you a god.
Open once again those eyes, lazy one, and
Peel that self-centered smirk from your
Quintessentially arrogant mug.
Reveal to me your secrets.
Show me why sunbeams are so alluring, or
Tell me why a blank wall holds so much meaning.
Undo the damage you've done, if you can--
Vicious huntress, killer of flies,
Wanderer, climber, adventurer--
Xanthous eyes, black coat, white paws--
You defy physics, set new boundaries, outlive expectations--
Zoos could not contain you.

(I was thinking about my sister's she-devil of a cat...-_-'' I swear that thing's not from this planet)

Albert the fat cat was very bored.
By tying helium-filled balloons to his tail, he managed to float everywhere.
Candy was thrown at him by little kids for his trick, which he eagerly ate.
Days later, the helium ran out!
Everything he tried just wouldn't work!
Finally, Albert the Cat gave up on his balloons.
Grandpa Kitty walked up to the sad Albert.
He looked at Albert and said, "What's wrong, Albert?"
"I can't get my balloons to make me float anymore!" Albert whines.
Jack-Jack-Cat joins the conversation and rolls his eyes, "Get over it and find a new way to fly."
Kings came from all over weeks later to see Albert the Cat's new idea.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have come up with a new way to travel!" Albert announces.
Meowing loudly, Albert flaps his arms he had covered in feathers.
Nothing could tear the people's attention away from the flying, fat cat.
"Oh my god! Albert's flying!"
People from all over come to see such a sight.
Queen Kitteh came to see if it was true.
Running up to the stage, she watches Albert fly.
Suddenly, she demands a pair of wings for herself.
Tan-colored wings were maid for Queen Kitteh as fast as possible.
Under the stars, the two cats flew where ever they wished.
Various people caught them on film, unable to believe what they were seeing.
Wally the Human stares at the cats with a hint of confusion.
X-ray's showed that the feathers had molded to their bones and were there to stay.
Years later, cats of all kinda were flying around with their wings.
Zeke stares at Albert the Fat Cat and asks, "Since when did you know how to talk?"

I've posted up a correction to my two previous literature abortions. Sorry for this, I'm just having a TERRIBLE night.

Abyssinians are a breed from Ethiopia
Bambinos are from America
Can't use the 'c' word to describe these guys
Deviantart won't give me extra points otherwise
European Shorthairs are from Sweden or Italy
'Feline' is how we refer to them Scientifically
German Rexes are from East Germany
How am I doing, hoping just splendidly?
I'm trying to win the dA points prize
Just a few more and I can get a T-shirt (XXL size)
Kurilian Bobtails are a Russian breed of ca-
Like I'm gonna say that word - I won't lose like that!
Munchkins are a breed, I swear it's true
Nebelungs are as well, I didn't know that - did you?
Oregon Rex are a mutation from America
Peterbalds - like Kurilian Bobtails - are also from Russia
Quite impressive how many breeds there are, really...
Russian Blue are Russian too, but you probably guessed that, mate
Savannahs on the other hand are from the United States.
Turkish Vans are from Turkey, hence the obvious name
Ukranian Levkoy - as you probably guessed - are from the Ukraine
Ville - that's Miss. Cruella De Ville to you - wanted to kill them (which isn't right)
Wikipedia taught me all of these different breeds - I've been studying all night.
X-Rays on felines are performed by vets
York Chocolate are the last breed of feline I know,
Zounds! I've finished. I'll take those 1,000 points to go.

Wow! Thanks so much for choosing my piece! I'm very excited. I really love the theme of mother nature and pretty much anything having to do with the planet and life and all that good stuff. This was a very happy surprise. xo
