Still hoping that I'm wrong about this contest.

It would't be funny. I've attended a national contest here in my country and they didn't follow their own rules and in the end the winners were the students of the one single judge that was an art teacher. it was such an obvious fraud ... and the contest had big prizes too.

WO WO WO WO I DID NOT WRITE THAT COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I appologise but I did not write that comment to you about your work it is not in my nature to say stuff like that and I will be looking into who did, probably the over protective husband, but it shall be delt with.

However, while on the topic of whom is bashing whom. I am a sold out artist, other than my newest paintings that I have not yet marketed. I just got some new canvases in and currently working on even more works, to which I am very proud of and so is the rest of my family, friends, and clients. I also have many custom orders that come in, and am very proud of those as well. Each piece of artwork that I create, I am proud of, as any artist should be of their work, weather it be sold or unsold it is still an accomplishment.

Charity is giving out a couple of bucks here and there, this sold out artist makes $600 + on her paintings. If people feel that sorry for my artwork, then apparently they are overpaying? Or could it be perhaps they like the texture, tone and feel to a canvas rather than a photo printed out from an expensive printer? Or is it perhaps that not everyone has the same tastes as you? Thats the great thing about individuality, not everyone has to be you Pavel.

I would not point fingers if I were you, considering you started the artist bashing in your original message to me. Only insecure artists attack readily and quickly as you so did. For what ever reason you felt the need to say that digital art wouldn't help my art look better. Well it doesn't have to look better, because I'm not here to paint for you. I'm here to paint for myself, and paint for the people who like my style of painting. There is constructive criticism and criticism, I see you have only mastered the second of the two. There is a difference in being confident in your work and arrogant, once again you have only mastered the second of the two. Before condoning judgement upon others, perhaps you should work on your people/conversation skills before so arrogantly putting down artwork that you lift your nose up to. And be careful to whom you criticize, as they might just be the established artist that makes $6000+ /piece of artwork.

As I stated above, I appologise but I did not make that comment towards your work, however, quickly attacking back in the manor that you did, and with the additive of your initial comment, I would have to say that any non-constructive criticism you get is well deserved and well warranted.
Happy Creating.

Oops, darn I lagged and posted twice, sorry. O.o

Well, yeah, there is something funny going on behind the curtains, so it seems. I sure hope their reason for being late is checking if there is no more art plagiarism going on or art that doesn't follow the rules. It would be quite a slap to the face to all the contestants if the winners will be some that do not follow some of the rules, or in the funniest case, NONE of them, rofl!

From what I know (and someone correct me if I'm mistaking here), the finals in general are still a stage out of which only some will be winners, or in this contest's case it could be like all finalists win something, but only the prize order will make the difference (1st, 2nd, 3rd).

So if going by definition, it's not quite same thing. Finals = a stage that must be passed. Final results are when we'd know who won what prize. Or so it would be according to this definition: [link]

Also, a tip, if you really do have some sort of customers, hold on to them tight and don't EVER share with them insults upon your person suffered on DevianArt and seek for them to defend you. That is not what clients are for, they don't want to hear it. If when they see you about work, you instead give them a weird rant that they have to play along with, they will not remain customers for long and will desist their charity.

Well, indeed it is written in the rules that they would do that, but then again they can at any time re-write the rules, and write that part out too.

Another thing I remember reading was that the classes can be held during summer.
Here's the part from the official rules:
"a full scholarship to The Art Department 3-Week Workshop in Kansas City, MO, USA, which takes place either between January 7, 2013 to January 25, 2013 or July 8, 2013 to July 26, 2013"

They were supposed to announce the finalists first and then the winners. So assuming it's like any other contest, there was supposed to be a stage between semi and winner. Guess it has either been changed to a different date, or something funny is going on behind the curtains.

The thing about the semi-final picking: the rules never did state that people that don't follow the rules can't make it to semi-finals, nor that multiple of their entries can't be picked. But they do say that in the end the winners will be ones that respect the rules and only one of their entries may win.
It would be funny if one or more of the winners did not follow the rules. Rofl.

I also think this is what can be thrown as the reason for not posting the results on time: "Sponsors and/or judges disclaim any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participation in, or accessing, posting, uploading or downloading information in connection with, this Contest, and reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend this Contest should any virus, bug, technical failures, unauthorized human intervention (or other causes beyond Sponsors’ reasonable control) corrupt or affect the administration" or pretty much anything that says "We do what we want" lol.

A contest that ignores/ doesn't respect it's own requirements is at least not a serious contest. First you select entries that clearly do not respect either the requirements , and then you say you will announce "shortly" the winners and yet almost a month passed since and not even an update from you. How ca any of us can expect something good from someone that doesn't even respects it's own rules. What a pity.

Since Winning Entrants must enroll in prize classes on or before January 15, 2013, is it fair to assume that if I haven't been contacted by now, I'm out of the running? It's January 15 today and I didn't hear from anyone.

Well, about that space station of D.A. being hit by an asteroid just when they are about to announce the winners some time in the future, after the apocalypse... seems likely to happen. X)))

But seriously, I wonder what is taking so long to choose the finalists (seeing as for the semi-finalists there wasn't even enough research done and they chose people out of which some obviously broke the rules).
