We all have areas of our living space that need a little love.  Perhaps it's an old painting hanging in your living room that's a little faded, or a ripped poster above your bed from your formerly favorite band.  Whatever it is, we want to see!  Whether you're looking to replace something that already exists or add to an empty wall, deviantART wants to upgrade your space!

Enter our contest by October 25, 2012, and be sure to look for winners to be announced on October 29th -- just in time for the beginning of deviantART's Free Shipping Event on Prints and deviantART Gear!

  • Show us what you want upgraded! Take a photo of the place where you live that could use a little sprucing up.
  • Visit the deviantART Prints Shop to select a qualified Framed Fine Art Print* that you'd like for your art upgrade.
  • Upload your photo to the Upgrade Your Space contest category. Include a link to your chosen qualified Framed Fine Art Print* in the deviation description and, in at least one sentence, describe why this is the perfect art upgrade. No photo editing required!

* Consult the Official Rules for the meaning of "qualified Framed Fine Art Print"

  • Entry must be received by 11:59:59 PM (Los Angeles, CA, USA time) on October 25, 2012 and must be submitted to the Contest gallery on www.deviantart.com;
  • Entrants must be members of deviantART and at least 13 years old to participate. Residents of any country are eligible. Membership to deviantART is free;
  • Entries must be submitted in a single JPG or PNG file;
  • Entries must be a photograph. Photograph must be of the place where you live;
  • Fan art, art that includes prominent corporate or product logos, or any other content that violates deviantART's policies (such as material that is not original to the artist offering the Print) may not be selected as a Print upgrade;
  • You must provide in the deviation description when you upload your entry a link to the Print desired to better the space, as well as a reason for why the Print is desired;
  • You may submit more than one entry, but only one entry per entrant may be chosen as a winner.

In preparation for the Free Shipping Event, check out the Prints Shop and deviantART T-Shirts and Gear to pick out your favorite pieces. I chose a Doctor Who art. [link] but I don't know if that violates the rules. Technically it's fanart, but it's done completely by the artist.
Help?

Hate to say this but as you said, it's fan art. That means it would violate the rules according to the fifth bullet point in the rules above.

It can be any framed fine art print. The prints you see above are simply examples of some offered to help make the contest page more interesting.

If you happen to win one of the framed prints then you'll win the one you linked to on whatever entry the judges pick. You can't change what print you want after the fact.

Hello, I've submitted yesterday my entry, but due an internet connection's problem seems like if I've submitted two times the same thing. I hope to not be kicked out because of this problem :(
Currently in my gallery there is only one submission but browsing into the entries there are two identical u.u
I don't know how to solve it and I really hope that my submission will not be deleted only for this.
Thank you in advance.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English ^^;

Yeah I know that but in my gallery there is only one submission, the problem is visible while browsing all the dA members'entries for this contest: there are two submissions. Maybe it's only a dA bug? o.o
However thank you so much for your kind help :)

I checked your gallery, and if you go to browse, you look in the top, the little headers, and you click on what's showing for *contest*, there's 2 of them showing up. These are their links:
in gallery d5imm2z: [link]
other d5imljr [link]
Hope that helps

I would go check each picture, and click on the link in them. That way you'll see where the second picture is, it's probably landed in your scrapbook, as well as in your gallery :D

deviantArt are amazing when it comes to contests like this :) Also the free shipping event are really great! I already bought a couple of puzzle prints with real money with the beta tester code. But this time I will use points in buying photo prints for me and my friend<13 :)

May I ask what qualifies as a Framed Fine Art Print? If a print is available as a photo print, like this, does it count? Or does it have to be available as an art print like this?

From the Official Rules: "A qualified Print is a work offered as a Framed Fine Art Print in a size no larger than 20"x30". A qualified Print may not contain fan art, art that includes a prominent corporate or product logo or any other content that violates deviantART's policies such as material that is not original to the artist offering the print." :)

I've read the official rules, but I wasn't quite sure on the specifics, so that's why I asked. The first link, as a photo print, doesn't have an option to be framed. The contest says that it needs to be a "Framed Fine Art Print," so does that mean that the photo print is not qualified?

Forgive me for the question. I've never bought an art print from the shop before, so I'm unsure how art prints are sorted.

It has to be an art print. Photo prints are a completely different category, different material. If you go to the print shop, under Wall Art, there's a category called Fine Art Prints.

i think i understand, but i have a question it says..
"in the deviation description and, in at least one sentence, describe why this is the perfect art upgrade"

im just a little confused, is it only one sentence or is it more than one sentence?

The one sentence thing is just a minimum. You're free to write more if you choose to.

I uploaded this [link] to my scraps and uploaded the plain photo [link] to the contest category (for the reason stated in the first deviation). But when I went to look, the first one had been moved to the contest folder as well. Should I take that as a fluke and move the first one back to scraps or should I just make that my actual contest entry (it best illustrates why I've chosen the print)?

Thank you in advance for any answer. :)

No, but it definitely changed category. I've stil got a window open where it is shown to be in my Scraps. I tagged it with Upgrade Your Space though, so maybe it was done automatically?

Hmm, did it happen immediately, or did it take a few hours for it to change? If it happened immediately then maybe taking out the words "upgrade my space" will make it so it doesn't move. But if it took a few hours than maybe a CV moved it thinking you wanted it in the contest folder.

It was practically immediately, but it is not the case that I want it to be in my scraps. Not if it would work as a valid contest entry. So maybe my question should instead be: Are only pure photos valid entries, or is it okay with a before photo together with a manipulated after photo where the print has been added (as in the deviation that was moved from my scraps)?

A before and after image is not needed.

I know it is not needed, it says so in the contest description. But I made one anyway, and I'd like to know if it would be an eligble contest entry, or if it would get disqualified for not being a "pure" photo? :)

Since it's not required that means it's not needed. It won't matter as what they require is a link and explanation in the description. I think it might be fine but I would rather not have it to be on the safe side.

Well I know that the single picture is a valid entry, but I'm not sure if a before and after one is.

What ever you do, move it back or keep it in, you will have a valid entry. The worst that can happen is that the one that got moved will not be valid, but the single photo one will. So if you choose one or the other you will always have a valid entry as long as you keep that single photo in.:)
