Dreams Dashed and Realized

Since I was a wee lass, I've always wanted to fly.  As a hopeful, yet safety conscious child, I tried this out several times jumping into pillows and my bed.  After several attempts, and with some instruction from my parents, I learned I couldn't.

Since I was a wee lass, I've always wanted to bake.  I would combine foods that normally would not be combined (my personal favorite: cinnamon mashed potatoes).  No one else enjoyed the fruits of my labor.  Then, I set the oven on fire.  My parents discouraged me from cooking, for their safety as well as the well-being of the house.

Since I was a wee lass, I've always wanted to be an architect.  I liked cities and observing the skyscrapers wherever I visited.  I liked the idea of designing roller coasters especially.  Even though I don't like roller coasters personally, I wanted others to enjoy the rides I built.  My parents encouraged my interest but were, hm, concerned, since I didn't take any art classes as a child and didn't seem to have any particular skill set towards this field.




But I don't give up hope on any of these things.

I fly all the time now.  In planes.  And I still jump off things that are much higher than should be attempted.

Through food experimentation, I've actually made some workable meals from pretty unique items.  I like cooking for others as well.

As for the last one, well.  I have no plans to be an architect, but I like what I'm doing, so I really can't complain.  Plus, I get to play architect with food, as Heidi and aunjuli witnessed at lunch today.  They contributed to an epic tower made of kebab skewers, tomatoes, hummus+an unknown garlic substance, and beets.  Unfortunately, the tower didn't last for long, but we did get a job well done from the employees of the restaurant.

All in all, never give up.  There are ways to achieve what may be impossible.  It just takes imagination and creativity.  I refuse to grow up.  Ever.
